As I mentioned before, there's so much going on during Fashion Week besides the shows, so it's really easy to keep a packed schedule while in New York. Visiting some of my favorite brands' offices was at the top of my To-Do list for this trip. I love getting to see what goes on "behind the brand," and Haute Hippie is one I've loved for a really long time. Their pieces are bohemian, sexy, and totally wearable. And the way that they put it all together is perfection (I mean, just take a look at the Fall 2014 Lookbook).
I was super excited when booking my appointment to have a peek around their showroom and below are some snaps I took during my visit. Most of the showroom's two floors are made up of racks of clothing from past seasons (The Archives) and then the new stuff too, of course (which is why I was able to wear this fringe jacket from their Resort 2015 collection before it hits stores and online in November-December). The whole time all I could think was how much fun it must be to come to work every day in basically a giant closet. The racks of sequined, mini dresses we're my favorite. I don't know about you, but there's not much I feel better in than a sequined mini and Haute Hippie is known for doing it right. I also loved getting to see all of the beautiful prints and fabrics that they use. You would die if you saw what's coming for Spring, but I wasn't able to take pictures of that yet! Walking around you hear what you think of typical "showroom talk." "Which dress is for Miranda (Lambert) again?" "Taylor Swift already wore that one..."
More to come featuring Haute Hippie on The Fashionably Broke, but for now I hope you enjoy theses snaps and be sure to scroll all the way down for a quick interview with Haute Hippie Founder and Creative Director, Trish Wescoat Pound, as I ask her a few questions about the brand and their new Fall collection. And, I want to send a big thank you to the sweetest team at Haute Hippie for having me and for being so welcoming during my visit!
A. The Fall 2014 collection explores the decadence, elegance, and glamour of New York City’s Central Park Casino. The flapper girl of the 1920’s comes alive in the modern present. She dons menswear inspired jackets with tailcoats and cropped pants under attached skirts. Oversized melange sweaters layer over intricately embellished gowns. Floral and plaid prints mix with hard and soft textures of stretch leather and silk chiffon. The fluid draping of gowns accented with fur coats and merino wool jackets really define the meaning of understated luxury for this collection.
Q.What is the must have item from your fall collection?
A. A beaded crapin or embellished bib to throw over everything from a gown to a plain tee or layered underneath a grandfather cardigan. Like these here!
Q. One thing you want people to know about Haute Hippie?
A. We are based in NYC. Many people ask if we are from LA! You have to look at the Haute Hippie collection in it’s entirety. There’s that laidback lifestyle and bohemian sensibility, a hint of old Hollywood glamour, and finally the styling of a true New Yorker. It’s all about the layers! We design into pieces that can be worn multiple ways.
Q. Describe the Haute Hippie woman in three words or less.
A. Confident. Free Spirit. Incurable case of wanderlust.
so gorgeous! I love the whole boho glam look :)
