We’ve now made our way through the first month of 2015, regrouping, recouping and setting goals for the new year. In February specifically, the biggest thing on my mind every year is New York Fashion Week (I'm on my way today!) and, importantly, what I want to wear. It’s pretty much the first real chance to showcase new talent: Isabel Marant booties thanks to the Barney’s after holiday sale, a new, bold lip color, or the perfect crossbody.
But it’s also a chance to put your resolutions to the test: in my case, drinking more water (that’s where my official hydrator, smartwater, comes in) and style resolutions too, like making a low pair of heels look hot or make neutrals stand out in a sea of color. Those are just two of the places that my personal style journey has taken me as of lately, which I’ve made sure to pay close attention to these days.
Personal style is an ever-evolving thing, but I’ve realized that you do have to be aware of it to really grow. Besides the usual Sunday pinning, scrolls through Instagram, or reading blogs, there’s so many things in everyday life that provide inspiration that, I have to admit, I regretfully ignored for a couple years. Actually reading through the free look books that the sales girl threw in your bag, taking an hour to indulge in a print magazine, or watching the music videos to your favorite song help you figure out what you love (in most cases for me, what to wear).
I’m trying to make it a habit to pay attention to those little things I love along the way and then figure out how each of them fit into my own personal style. And not just into what I would wear to New York Fashion Week, but to what I wear to the gym (like cute yoga gear from Cozy Orange) or to a simple dinner with my family. If you can figure out what core pieces make you feel good, the it becomes really easy to elevate them or take them down a notch, when need be.
