One of a Kind Red Carpet Style - Six Trends From The Golden Globes

Last night we were tuned into the Golden Globes early, for the most important part, of course. We tuned in as attendees arrived to see what styles and trends made their way on to the red carpet. Being the first award show of the year, I can only image the extra pressure there was to show up in style. As we all know, Diet Dr Pepper is known for it's One of a Kind taste. So, in honor of their deliciousness, they asked us to pay extra close attention and report back on the One of a Kind Red Carpet Style from the show.

Here are six of the biggest and hottest trends, straight from the red carpet to your computer screen: Red Hot, The Deep V, Blush Tones, Black and White, Colorblocked, & Structure

After an award show, I always find myself inspired to incorporate red carpet trends into my own daily style. My favorite from last night was the black and white color palett and below, I show you three ways that you can incorate this red carpet into your own daytime look. What were your favorite trends from the 2014 Golden Globes red carpets? Tweet us and let us know using the hashtag #oneofakindstyle. Also, make sure you're following us on Twitter because we will be live tweeting and trend reporting during the Grammys and Oscars as well!

Spring Trend Guide

It's finally here - Your one stop shop for all of Spring's hottest trends! And, the best part is, everything you see me wearing here is from Marshalls. This means two important things: 1. Designer clothing 2. Affordable prices. Which are also two of our favorite things when it comes to shopping, here on The Fashionably Broke.

(Left to right.)

1. Sorbet Colors
2. Ladylike Dresses

There are many ways to incorporate both of these trends. My favorite way to incorporate the sorbet trend into my wardrobe has been through statement pieces, like a mint blazer or coral shoes. Ladylike dress options are also plentiful at Marshalls. Crochet, lace and fit and flare are my favorite styles.

3. Feminine Accessories

The perfect complement to masculine pieces, such as boyfriend jeans or a leather jacket, are feminine accessories. A structured handbag, single sole pumps or a pair of oversized sunglasses are both easy ways to embrace this spring trend and Marshalls has a huge selection of them all.

4. Dresses
5. Woven Blouses

As I said in my Spring Trend Video, the first rack I check out when I'm at Marshalls is always the dress rack. I get all of my special occasion dresses at Marshalls because that's where I can get the best bang for my buck. The sequin details on this dress make it perfect for any girls night (or, girls day) out. I also have to grab a woven blouse or two while I'm there. You can never have too many equipment blouses or chambray shirts in your closet, of course.

6. Nude and Neutral Accessories

My favorite spring trend of them all, nudes and neutrals accessories, is one that you can't leave out. Accessorizing is such a big part of our personal style. And when it comes to nude accessories, you will find these pieces to be timeless in your wardrobe and necessary for so many looks. These nude wedges have become my new go-to, spring shoe.

I can't stress enough how much we believe shopping for designer discounts on spring's hottest trends at Marshalls is necessary this season. The selection will leave something for everyone and you can't beat those prices. If you want to learn more about these spring trends, or how I styled them, be sure to refer back to their individual posts. And again, thank you guys for following along my campaign with Marshalls. It's been so much fun for me, I hope it was for you too!

And, don't forget! You can win a $50 gift card to Marshalls by submitting pictures your best finds. Just use the hashtag #FabFound on Instagram or Twitter when sharing!

16 Ways To Wear Tropical Prints

Tropical Print Fashion

ONE / TWO / THREE / FOUR / FIVE / SIX / SEVEN / EIGHT / NINE & NINE / TEN / ELEVEN / TWELVE / THIRTEEN / FOURTEEN / FIFTEEN / SIXTEEN

This was such a fun post to do - I love tropical prints right now in the form of anything and everything. I've found a few (or sixteen) awesome ways to wear this summer-worthy print this season - Take your pick! My personal favorite is number sixteen. Last, but not least, a tropical print blouse from Forever21, that appears to have a matching pair of trousers, which I need both of obviously, for a full-length, tropical suit. Who doesn't want to look like a walking palm tree, really?

Spring Track Pants

springtrackpants

baggy, track-like trousers are my new favorite thing to shop for. I love my Georgie "jogging" pants so much. think about it - they can be worn dressed up with a pair of amazing heels, or dressed down with a tee and flats, and either way you're still comofortable (which is very important to me). throw on a baseball cap and you're really winning.

it's actually become an issue for me to stop wearing the one pair that I have, so I'm on the hunt for a few new pairs for spring. track pants to me - the perfect spring transition piece for your wardrobe; easy and breezy baby. if you are going to get a pair for spring, I would go with either solid and tailored, a fun print (floral or tribal prints are trending lately), or the standard track-stripe. I even found that Adidas makes a great pair that I sort of want - their slim fit track pant for an extra sporty look. Sporty-luxe, I can tell we are going to be good friends.

boyish charm

DSC_0194 DSC_0195 DSC_0197 DSC_0207

there are enough words in my pictures, right? makes me feel like i don't need to say much!

DSC_0208 DSC_0213 DSC_0214 DSC_0215

i enjoy standing out and one of my favorite ways to do so this fall is by embracing the boyish, sporty trend. i took the trend for a test ride on a cloudy saturday in the city, and thought that a baseball cap was a great place to start. it all began when i showed up at the La Petite Marmoset showroom with some printed skinny jeans on, my converse's and a cropped, graphic sweatshirt and found myself a stellar, navy blue, leather cap and some metal jewels lying around. put it all together and you get my 'boyish charm' look. it comes down to keeping a good balance between the two genders, i think. my next boyish purchase is going to be a pair of isabel marant look-a-like wedge sneakers (like these), which are the perfect balance of girl vs. boy all in themselves.

this is my take on how to wear the military/camo trend right now. i love these old cargo skinnies, for right now and for this upcoming fall as well. i am already picturing myself styling them with big slouchy sweaters and ankle boots and loving it! maybe even pairing them with a matching army green cargo vest for a full length military look, like this one, what do you think?

peplum & stripes

DSC_0811 DSC_0826 DSC_0808 DSC_0823

all of you wanted to know more about Erika's peplum top, that she wore last week to Fairfax's Fashion Blogger's Night Out. it was another boutique find from our beach trip, from Islands By Amity, and our first run with the peplum trend. we love the multi-directional stripes of this top, as well as it's neutral colors. she pairs it so perfectly for with a tan fedora and brightens up her neutral summer look with a pink bag.

in summer whites and mixed prints

DSC_0600 DSC_0609 DSC_0650 DSC_0653 DSC_0668 DSC_0657 DSC_0701

how awesome was yesterday's fashion filled post featuring the Pre-Fall Runway collection from BCBGMAXAZRIA? Lubov Azria's designs for the collection were inspired by the idea of the "romantic gypsy," resulting in looks so fitting for the upcoming transition from summer to fall. for lunch with Lubov we wore BCBGMAXAZRIA pieces (naturally) and embraced their spring/summer 2012 trends, including black and white and geometric prints.

Erika went for a summer whites look in a crochet mini dress and i went for a more structured look than i typically do, in a geometric top and printed trousers.  i'm really more than pleased with our shoe choices, sprinting through the city to catch happy hour with the girls was much more pleasant in wedges and booties.

side note - today is Erika's 22nd birthday (so make sure to wish her a hbd)! happy birthday to my sister, best friend, and better half. i couldn't survive without you and i am so proud of the beautiful, smart woman you are today. i love that we get to celebrate your birthday in the outer banks this time :) love you more than the world! XO natalie

printed palazzo

printed palazzo pants trend printed palazzo pants trend printed palazzo pants trend printed palazzo pants trend printed palazzo pants trend printed palazzo pants trend

a pair of palazzo pants (previously known as wide legs) are a go-to when it comes to trendy fashion statements this summer. they give you that i'm totally trying but i'm secretly so damn comfortable look, especially with such a bold attention-grabbing tribal print like these have. clearly, that's the look i go for during road trips, as i wore them the day we drove to the beach. we decided the most appropriate time to wear a palazzo pant is when you need a comfy day outfit that can easily transition straight in to a fashionable going out outfit with just a quick change of flats to heels. we also decided that we love the full length baggy look, so keep it easy-breezy and pair your baggy palazzo pants with a baggy tee or blouse. if you are in the market for a pair of cute palazzo pants, south moon under has a great selection! or, you could even try a local vintage store and get yourself a pair of real, 1970's palazzo's.
