Find your #DCSoul with SoulCycle Essentials

SoulCycle is finally coming to Washington, DC! Their 30th studio nationwide is set to open August 2nd on M Street, and another SoulCycle studio is set to open in Bethesda, MD this fall. If you’ve only heard about SoulCycle (most likely from all of your trendy friends who live in NYC) here’s the scoop. Some of our favorite celebs are even SoulCycle regulars, including Madonna, Katie Holmes, David Beckham and Bradley Cooper. Here's what else we've uncovered:

SoulCycle has fast become a national obsession - the 45 minute group exercise classes sell out in a matter of minutes, if not seconds. They are attributed to reinventing the game of indoor cycling, by making it a full-body workout, in candlelight.

Candlelight?! Dance music?! We’re SOLD. Erika and I already have plans to attend a class once the studio opens and we’ll be sure to let you know how it went and if its #TFBApproved! We’ve made fitness a big priority in 2014, and we’re thinking about sharing more about that with you on the blog. From what to wear, new workouts to try, we thought you’d enjoy hearing about another important aspect of our lives. (Feel free to let us know if you have any thoughts/comments about this!)

For now, we wanted to leave you with a few tips on prepping for your first SoulCycle class!

WHAT TO WEAR

DO: Wear a loose tee or tank on top and form-fitting pants or shorts on the bottom.
DON’T: wear anything that will get in your way of riding the bike. Cool, sweat-wicking fabrics are key!
PSA: You’re no Serena Williams –ditch the hoop earrings and stacks of pearl necklaces.
SoulCycle DC will also have it’s own SOUL apparel boutique!! (These SoulCycle Bike Leggings are calling our names…)

SPIN SHOES?

Shoe rentals are available at all studios for $3, but you’re welcome to bring your own. SoulCycle recommends Look Delta clips, but pedals are also SPD compatible.

WATCH THE TIME

Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your class. You want to make sure to secure and fit your bike!
If you are running late, you can give the SoulCycle studio a call (202) 659-7685. They will hold bikes for up to 10 minutes after class starts.

FEEL THE BURN!

Calorie burn per class ranges from 500-700 per 45-minute workout so we recommend…

H2O: Drink, drink, drink! The key to a healthy body is staying hydrated. So be sure to have water before, during, and after your ride. Bring a Nalgene or basic water bottle – there are filtered water fountains at the studio if you need to fill up. SoulCycle also sells small waters for $2 and large for $3.

NOSH: Words to live by - be sure to eat a little something before you exercise. SoulCycle recommends eating a light snack 30 minutes before you ride.

GYM BAG:

Here are some beauty essentials that will take you from the studio to happy hour (or the office) in no-time:

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater, $7
Bobbi Brown Blotting Papers, $20
Deborah Lippmann Walking On Sunshine Crème Nail Polish, $18
Drybar's Detox Dry Shampoo, $20

Are you as psyched as we are about #DCSOUL ?! Tell us what you think and be sure to share the news with your friends!

Follow along with SoulCycle here: SoulCycle website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

Meet D.C.'s Newest Ride Service: Lyft

Step 1. Download the 'Lyft' app and put in the code 'FASHBROKE' for a $20 credit

Step 2. Request your Lyft

Step 3. Look for the pink mustache and hop in!

Step 4. Plug your phone in!

Step 5. Have a complimentary, cold beverage!

DSC_1469

Step 6. TELL ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS HOW AWESOME LYFT IS!
(And you should probably give them that code too)

Lyft is D.C.'s newest smartphone-based ride-sharing service, which just surpassed 1 million rides in August! We wanted to tell you a little bit more how it works because we now swear by it and we want you to check it out!

It's all app-based, so you add your credit card to your profile and that's how you pay (no cash will be accepted). You request your driver, Lyft tells you how many are in the area and how soon they will arrive, as well as shows you a picture of the (safety verified) driver and the car that's coming to pick you up.

As soon as you get in, you will get a fist pump. Then your driver will probably ask you something awesome like, "Do you want to plug your phone in, I have every charger known to mankind?" Or, "Would you like a drink or a piece of candy?" (in which you reply, "Hell yes.") There are even drivers in San Francisco (Lyft's hometown) that would ask you "Who wants to sing some karaoke?!" Lyft is all about having fun and that's why we love it!

When your ride is over, Lyft suggests what it thinks you should pay your driver (including tip). So, you then rate your driver and chose how much you want to pay (all within the privacy of your phone). We can just tell you now, the rates can't be beat! It comes to about a dollar a minute for the recommended donation. Plus, your driver has just become your new bff so you are going to have no issue with giving him the recommended amount.

So, give Lyft a try and be sure to use the code 'FASHBROKE' for a $20 credit towards your first ride! Then, tweet us and let us know how much you love it :) Have a great weekend, guys! xx

P.S. Lyft works in Virginia too!

Savvy Summer Guide to DC and VA

As a part of their recent Summer Dress line launch, London Times is kicking off their Savvy Summer campaign, where they asked bloggers from all over to not only share their favorite London Times dresses but also to create a Savvy Summer guide to their city. Since I spend most of my time in DC and Virginia, I decided to share some of my favorite things to do in both, from the perfect summer treat to a favorite shopping destination.

But first, a little bit of London Times Fashion, of course! Below is me in my favorite LT printed, maxi dress - A maxi dress should be in every girl's summer wardrobe this season, don't ya think?

SummerGuideToDCVA

1. Rossylyn Outdoor Film Festival: The perfect date night? Watch a free movie on the lawn! Every Friday at dusk from May 17 to Aug. 30, a movie is played at Gateway Park. Check out their website to see what's playing next.

2. Cream Cycle DC: Beat the heat this summer by tracking down one of D.C's coolest, hidden gem's - The Cream Cycle "food truck." Track down this fleet of bicycles, which house the best, gourmet ice cream sandwiches in town, by checking out their Twitter feed here! You won't want to miss out on the unique flavor combinations whipped up by Chef Carlos Delgado, like banana-habanero or coconut-lemon grass-basil.

3. She's Unique: Old Town Alexandria is one of my favorite places to spend the day. Great shopping, delicious food options and beautiful scenery - What's not to love? While I'm there, I always make sure to check out the latest at my favorite jewelry boutique, She's Unique. They have such a cool selection of designers and it's where I've found some of my best peices.

Be sure to check out the full London Times #SavvySummer guide here, where you can also enter to win $1000!

For those of you who don't know, Blogger Scene is a new series of events that we started, together with our good friend & blogger, Ashley Lettich of AshleyInDC. We wanted to bring together a blogger workshop and a super fun party (because we all love a good party) into one big, blogger event - Hence our motto, "Parties with a purpose!" We have featured bloggers at each event that speak on a panel, answering questions about something specific that we think they are good at (social media, SEO, branding, etc.). We use our events as a way to promote local businesses and brands that we love too! These events will be used as a way for bloggers who don't want to attend those expensive blogger conferences but still get that same type of educational experience.

For those of you who attended, thank you SO much for your support! The first event was bigger and better than we ever imagined and we appreciate every one of you for coming out to party with us. Please check out our Facebook page for the rest of the photo's from the event and tag yourselves!

Next up is the Summer Blogger Scene Soiree, so keep your ears and eyes peeled for upcoming event details! If you would like to get involved with the next event, please contact us or Ashley.

Thank big you to our sponsors - Mari Vanna DC, Moki Media, LouLou Boutiques, Lydell NYC, Charm Boutique & PR at Partners at Tyson's Corner

All photos are by the amazing, DC photographer, John Robinson. Thank you again, John! We loved having you at our party and hope to have you at many more!
