After a fairly early wake-up call and breakfast at the hotel restaurant, Cafe Zuzu, where I indulged in a fresh smoothie and egg's benedict, we hopped in the car to Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West. Frank Lloyd Wright was an influential American architect and Taliesin West is considered one of his best masterpieces. It's a must-see in Scottsdale, Arizona!
What was once his winter home in the desert is now a historic landmark and home to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and The Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture. You can learn more about his design principles here and I've shared a few of my favorite (of his many famous) quotes below.
"No house should ever be on a hill or on anything. It should be of the hill. Belonging to it. Hill and house should live together each the happier for the other." - Frank Lloyd Wright
"We should learn from the snail: it has devised a home that is both exquisite and functional." - Frank Lloyd Wright
"The mission of an architect is to help people understand how to make life more beautiful, the world a better one for living in, and to give reason, rhyme and meaning to life." - Frank Lloyd Wright
Dining at Craft 64 is not optional! Artisan wood fired pizza, 36 local Arizona craft beers on tap, fresh mozzarella made in house, and a 'Nutella Indulgence' on the dessert menu has landed this restaurant on Zagat's top 10 hottest list in Scottsdale!
The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art is actually inside an old, now renovated, movie theatre and features the best of contemporary art, architecture and design exhibits from all over the globe. Plus, the museum is just minutes from the heart of downtown Scottsdale! Stores to check out while you're there include some of the many vintage and consignment stores in Arizona, like Vintage by Misty, Celebrity Encore and Twice Designer Resale.
Not a minute was wasted on day two in Phoenix and we closed out the night with dinner at Cafe Zuzu, and our final night's stay, at the Hotel Valley Ho. My only regret is not going to Sugar Bowl for dessert - Scottsdale's first ice cream parlor and recommended by many of the city's locals.
Of course, I managed to find time to take a dip in the hot tub...

More on my trip coming soon but you can learn more about Phoenix, AZ in the meantime at Visit Phoenix!
Gosh it is such a dreamy house! He was so brilliant. I would love to visit it one day.

great all
ReplyDeleteWe hung out at this place in evening last week before heading out to our next destination. While we were at Los Angeles venues we found the service to be quick and attentive. Probably because it was early on a Friday and it was still kind of empty.
