Instagram Update: What Is LIKEtoKNOW:IT?

If you're following us on Instagram, then you probably noticed that we started to mention something called "LIKEtoKNOW:IT" in our posts lately. You're probably wondering what it is and why we're posting a link in Instagram, because you can't even click links in Instagram (rude)! Well, LIKEtoKNOW:IT is actually a really cool Instagram plug-in that allows you to shop the items, or similar items, that we feature in our posts straight from your email inbox. Let me show you what we mean...

One of the most common questions asked on Instagram is, "Where did you get that?" Rather than just tell you "Nordstrom," and leave you to begin an endless search to find that exact item on the entire Nordstrom website, you can use the LIKEtoKNOW:IT feature to have that exact item link sent to you via email on an instant, daily or weekly basis (your choice!). Also, sometimes the items we wear aren't available anymore, but we have found you some similar options to shop from. This is how we can easily send you those suggestions as well. And, at any time, you can visit the "Instagram Outfits" tab on our blog at any time to shop all of our past posts from our personal LIKEtoKNOW:IT site.

Here's an example of a recent post that included LIKEtoKNOW:IT and the email that you would recieve if you were a registered LIKEtoKNOW:IT user and had Liked this photo on Instagram. As you can see, we've included some of the exact items we are wearing, which you can directly click through to shop, along with some similar items that we suggest as good alternatives to any of the pieces that are no longer available. Below, is another example of an outfit you could Like on Instagram and then shop from your inbox...

So, now that you know why we've been posting these crazy combinations of letters and numbers and un-clickable links on our Instagram posts, there's only a few things left for you to do to get started using this amazing feature:

1. Register on the www.LIKEtoKNOW.IT website

2. Like Instagrams that include the www.liketk.it/xyz links

3. Receive ready-to-shop product links in your inbox

If you aren't interested in this feature, don't worry, just keep on following @TheFashionablyBroke and Liking our posts, as you won't receive any extra emails if you haven't signed up. And, as always, thanks for following along and we hope you have a great weekend!

Cuffed

Photography by Julien

I have been a big fan of UncommonGoods since last year, around this same time, when I came across their site while shopping for Father's Day. I'm excited to have partnered with them again, this time to show off their jewelry section. You know we love our accessories here at The Fashionably Broke, we're always looking for new and interesting pieces to add to our collection. All handmade designs, like this Cactus Frame Necklace or this Shattered Glass Bib Necklace, make it likely that you'll find something you've never seen before, or even discover a new favorite artisan or designer like I did. I fell in love with the hammered silver and rose gold details of this bracelet and necklace by Dana Reed, who specializes in mixing metals and textures throughout her collections. Besides these pretty necklaces and bracelets, UncommonGoods has a great selection for your home and garden as well. Be sure to check it out, along with their long list of featured artists throughout the site. Happy Shopping! :)

Just the Essentials

I just live for comfortable basics lately. I think I just woke up one day and decided that I needed to be a better shopper. I realized the importance of versatility in your closet and not filling it with trendy, one-wear pieces. Everything needs to fill my "everyday" need, where fashion must meet function, with the exception of a few statement pieces here and there.

During the week, I'm mostly conformed to work attire, but on the weekends my style is set free. A typical day on the weekend for me involves (many) dog walks, going for a hike or a run, maybe a stop into the grocery store and then usually dinner or drinks with my boyfriend or friends. I'm pretty active during the day and then usually doing something social at night. And, knowing me, I'm probably cramming way too many things in to one day, leaving me not much time for outfit changes. Hence my recent obsession with comfortable basics; pieces that are stylish and work for both my active and social lifestyle. Athleta is a great store to find good quality basics and has always been a go-to of mine. I recently scoped out their new Spring Collection and everything is so fresh and modern for Summer, I love it all!

I just had to have the Aspire Ankle Pants. They are lightweight, which is perfect for activities during the day, and so versatile that when the evening rolls around I can just throw on some jewelry and go. They look so great with a light tee or tank tucked in to them. I think you'll find that a good pair of lightweight pants are necessary, even in the warmer months. A crew neck sweatshirt can also go a long way. I love this one tied around my waist for a cool, layered look. Plus, it really comes in handy in the freezer isle or in a cold restaurant. I always treat myself to at least one new bikini every summer, so I picked a bikini from the Athleta Aqualuxe line this year. I love the structured top and high-waisted bottom which are great for added coverage. All of my bikini's from my teeny-bikini wearing days usually end in a wardrobe malfunction these days. I feel ready to hit the beach or take a drive to the lake house for some paddle boarding at any minute. Lastly, my key accessories for this summer is coral jewelry, because it looks great next to a tan, tortoise sunglasses, because they go with just about everything, Birkenstock's and a neutral tote bag to tote it all around in. :) Shop more of my favorite Athleta pieces below!

We're Loving: PHYLLIS + ROSIE JEWELRY

As we love to share our best, new finds, Phyllis + Rosie was no exception. Thanks to She's Unqiue, a local boutique where we discover many of our favorite jewelry designers, we we're lucky enough to be introduced. Our favorite piece right now would have to be the Coin Necklace. I have it and you would know it if you knew me because I wear it almost every day. It's such a perfect piece for summer. I love it with all white, or any deep-V neckline and I plan to wear pair it with my suits at the beach. Gold looks amazing on top of a great tan. I wear it long or I even double-wrap it for a shorter, layered look. Click an image to shop directly!

We made it a goal that that we would share more of the 'what we're loving' side of this blog on a regular basis. Part of the fun behind this blog anyways is the fun that comes with finding new places to shop. Of course we all have our go-to's, but it's important to "expand your collection," as I like to call it.

I forget how we stumbled across Moorea Seal (I'm sure on Instagram), but when we did it was totally one of those moments where you immediately find/follow them on all social media sites (you don't?) and quickly bookmark the page. The Moorea Seal shop is made up of a carefully curated selection of designers who make and sell beautiful things, all seeming to be fashion, art and home decor related. Obviously, we were initially drawn to the jewelry first and foremost. There is really something unique for everyone, I think. And, they have those great basics that every girl is always in the market for, like a the perfect dainty, midi ring for $8. Knowing a portion of the site's proceeds are donated to five charities (you can even shop by cause), is pretty awesome too.

New Year's Eve, Eve

DSC_1548

This was a holiday look that we recently shared on The DC Ladies blog. We decided since it can easily be replicated, and is equally as appropriate, for a New Year's Eve party that we would share it again. This outfit has all of the right ingredients to make sure that you ring in the new year as fashionably broke as possible! Sequins being the most important ingredient of course...
